Official Rules & Regulations
To ensure the safe of the players and integrity of the the league, the rules and regulations have been provided.
League Format
- 6 on 6 adult contact flag football.
- Games played at Tumbleweed Park, East Valley.
- Season begins October 27 with weekly doubleheaders.
- Rosters: Minimum 7 players, maximum 12.
Roster Rules
- Each team must have a minimum of 7 players to register.
- The maximum roster size is 12 players per team.
- Teams must have at least 5 players present at game time to avoid forfeit.
- Rosters lock after Week 2. No mid-season signups unless approved by the Commissioner.
- Players must be officially registered to participate in games. No substitutions from outside the roster are allowed.
Game Rules
- Two 20-minute halves with a running clock, except final 2 minutes.
- Each team has 2 timeouts per half.
- Touchdowns = 6 points. Extra point: 1 point from 5-yard line, 2 points from 10-yard line. - Interceptions on conversions can be returned for 2 points.
Quarterback Rules
- QB is the only player who may receive the snap directly from the center.
- QB cannot cross the line of scrimmage unless rushed by a defender.
- Forward passes only are allowed beyond the line of scrimmage.
- Unlimited passes allowed behind the line (laterals/shovels).
- Once rushed, the QB becomes a legal runner.
- Pump fakes and play-action are legal.
- Intentional grounding results in loss of down at the spot.
2 Second Count Rush Rule
- Defenders may not cross the line of scrimmage to rush the quarterback until the referee (or back judge) completes a loud 2-second count.
- Count Example: 'One-thousand-one… One-thousand-two' → rushers may cross immediately after.
- If a defender crosses early, it is an illegal rush penalty (5 yards, repeat down).
- During the 2-second window, QB may pass, lateral, or handoff but cannot cross the line of scrimmage.
- Once the 2-second count is completed, the QB becomes a legal runner if he chooses.
- Sacks: QB’s flag pulled behind the line results in a sack (loss of down at spot).
Permitted Contact
- Blocking allowed at line of scrimmage with hands inside shoulders.
- Jamming receivers permitted within 5 yards of line.
- Rushing QB allowed with controlled engagement.
- Incidental hand fighting during routes permitted.
Prohibited Contact
- No tackling or bringing players to the ground.
- No striking, elbowing, or use of forearms.
- No blindsided hits, unnecessary roughness, or charging.
- No grabbing jerseys, flags, or body parts outside of legal flag pulls.
